Fun at Costco

Do you ever get the feeling that everyone's trying to figure you out, at Costco or any superstore, by looking at the stuff you buy? You hope that they're going to keep quiet about it.

I was shopping at Costco last weekend, and the dude working at the end of the checkout lane (who had befriended me a week ago at the gas pump) announced rather proudly to the cashier, "Hey, my friend here is a bachelor!"

"How do you know?"

"You see this?" he asks, holding up my box of vienna sausage cans, "man, he could live off this for a year--maybe more!"

Darn. My secret is out. :-)

FYI: Moving violations

Two of my teammates told me today, if you get a ticket in Kansas for a moving violation (such as speeding), you can have it converted to a non-moving violation for double the bail amount. While this is more expensive in terms of cash, it will save you from having points added onto your driving record, which means no increase in insurance premiums and more money in your pocket!

How about that? A real win-win situation!

I voted today

Today, I voted in Kansas for the first time. Back in California, I tried to make all of the local, state, and federal elections. What's nice about voting here is having the candidates' platforms and statements available online. I didn't even receive a paper sample ballot in the mail, unlike in Cali. What threw me off here was, the order in which the candidate names are presented (say, those for governor) doesn't match the order give on the county election Web site. Unless you write down your picks and take them with you, you'll probably end up voting for the wrong person. But, at least I avoided voting for the people I DIDN'T want! :-)
